Brass Monkey b/w Funky Monkey by Brass Monkey - Funk Soul 45 on Flip Publishing #7772 How can I share a group and song called Brass Monkey without mentioning the Beastie Boys? It makes me think, could this record title have inspired their famous lyrics, "Brass Monkey, that Funky Monkey"? Who is this potentially influential Brass Monkey group? I'm not sure. What I am sure of is that this funky little tune was written by Freeman King and Murray Langston, who were on the Laff Record label. These two comedians had an album on the same label that produced comic geniuses such as, Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor & George Carlin. You may recognize the name Murray Langston who is also known as the "Unknown Comic". Could it be King & Langston singing with girl group backing them, or did they just write the song? The world may never know the answer to these questions. Whether we ever find out or not, enjoy!
