Daily Find – I Shot The Sheriff b/w Do It Baby by Isaac Redd Holt Unlimited – Funk Jazz 45
Daily Discovery - I Shot The Sheriff b/w Do It Baby by Isaac Redd Holt Unlimited - Funk Jazz 45 on Paula Records #412
This is a funky jazz version of the Bob Marley classic "I Shot The Sheriff" with some short drum breaks, fuzz guitars and even a talk box at the end. "Do It Baby" comes in with a hard bass line that was sampled on one of my favorite songs by KRS ONE, "Why Is That?". Just a funky record all the way around, there's no denying it.
Daily Find – Fat Mama by HERBIE HANCOCK Killer Funk 45 breaks
Daily Discovery - Fat Mama b/w Wiggle Waggle by HERBIE HANCOCK Killer Funk 45 breaks on Warner Bros. Records #7358
Killer Funk breaks! This instrumental, sampled by 2Pac, Fat Joe, Chi Ali & Mellow Man Ace. Drums, guitars, organ, tambourine and horns come together to put this fat jam session together. Enjoy! Much love to Mr. Hancock for his musical talent.
Daily Find – Honky Tonk Popcorn by Bill Doggett featuring James Brown – Funk Soul 45
Daily Discovery - Honky Tonk Popcorn by Bill Doggett featuring James Brown - Funk Soul 45 on King Records #6239. Flip side is "Honky Tonk". Great Funk double sider.
Sampled on "Are You Ready" by The Beatnuts featuring Grand Puba. Also sampled and twisted on Funky Acid Stuff by Luke Vibert. Both cool versions. Put some funk in your trunk. James Brown productions were ahead of their time in my opinion.
Daily Find – You Got What I Need by Freddie Scott – Crossover Soul 45 Biz Markie sample “Just A Friend”
Daily Discovery - (You) Got What I Need by Freddie Scott - Crossover Soul 45 on Shout #233. Biz Markie sampled this song on "Just A Friend". This is an undiscovered gem by so many. Thank you to Biz & his team for brining this long lost jam to the publics ear years ago, but let's give credit to where it's due. If it wasn't for Freddie Scott, the band and his legendary producers Gamble & Huff, this wouldn't exist in the first place. Sit back and trip out on the sample that helped elevate Biz Markie to another level.
