Daily Find – Shadrack by Norman Brooks – Uptempo Soul Gospel 45 on S&N

Daily Discovery - Shadrack b/w His Eye On The Sparrow by Norman Brooks - Uptempo Gospel 45 on S&N Records #1701

The story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego is a new one on me. A cool story that sounds even better when set to some funky organ, guitar and a simple uptempo light drum beat. The rise and fall of smooth vocals that can really be heard when the break comes 3/4 of the way through the song. Gospel sweet Gospel with a touch of Soul.

Daily Find – My Victrola by JOEY PASTRANA Latin Soul 45

Daily Discovery - My Victrola by Joey Pastrana - Latin Soul 45 on Cotique Records #173. Flip side is Luna Trip by Dickie Goodman

"When I woke up this morning baby you were gone" To my surprise baby, I knew that something was gone". First thought that crossed my mind was his girl left him but it was something worse. Not only did his girl leave him but she stole his record player. Only thing worse than that would be if she took his records too! Talk about a nightmare, wake up in the morning and find that someone stole your record player and records! AHHHHH!

Daily Find – It’s So Hard by MELVIN & LEON – Rare Los Angeles R&B Soul 45 Marv

Daily Discovery - It's So Hard by Melvin And Leon - Rare Los Angeles R&B Soul 45 on Marv Records #101. Flip side is "Everything About You".

A cautionary tale. This one goes out to the guys who work hard everyday, just to give their money to their girl at the end of the week. Now that's what I call love with a price tag and an emotional hangover to boot. What ever happened to money can't buy love?. Melvin and Leon's pain is our gain as we hear his frustration on this tough to find underground Los Angeles gem.

Daily Find – All In One by The 3 Blue Jays – Rare Beat Ballad Northern Soul 45 on Triode

Daily Discovery - All In One by The 3 Blue Jays - Rare Beat Ballad Northern Soul 45 on Triode Records #106. Flip side is "Bicycle Ride".

A wicked, stomping little beat with vibes, horns and distorted haunting backing vocals. The lead singer is enticing you with an almost sensual feel to get on the dance floor to do his dance. The name of his dance? The "All In One" which is a mixture of different dances he calls out, the monkey, the twist and the chicken. Listening to and letting my imagination run wild I can totally picture him in the middle of the dance floor in his crisp pressed suit, crazy moves and smooth powerful vocals driving the women wild one dance at a time. This is a relatively unknown beat ballad on the same Triode label that released the legendary Northern Soul "I'm Coming Over" record by Johnny Honeycutt.

Daily Find – Hey Love by Mr. Clean & The Soul Inc. – Rare Group Sweet Soul 45 on Radio City

Daily Discovery - Hey Love by Mr. Clean & The Soul Inc. - Rare Group Sweet Soul 45 on Radio City #500. Flip side "I Bet He Don't Love You"

Extremely rare record from San Diego California. This is the same Radio City label that Rosey Grier's New Yorkers Northern Soul classic was released on. Both sides on this record are Group Soul gold with an incredible cover of the Intruders, "I Bet He Don't Love You" and "Hey Love" which I originally thought was a cover of the Stevie Wonder classic but turned out to be very different upon listening again. "Hey Love" is a cover of the song originally sung by the Rotary Connection and was written by Charles Stepney and Richard Rudolph.

Daily Find – Shadows by Bob Thiele Mysterious Flying Orchestra – Funky Jazz Lp

Daily Discovery - Shadows by Bob Thiele Mysterious Flying Orchestra - Funky Jazz Lp on RCA #2137.

Side One songs - Improvisational Rondo For Saxaphone And Guitar - Shadows - A Dream Deferred
Side Two songs - Summer Days - There Once Was A Man Named John - Nice 'N Spicy

As soon as the needle hit this record I knew that this had to be sampled. Turns out the genius rapper, the late Guru and his team had already done so in 2003 on his song "Skills". Lonnie Liston Smith and many other artists were a part of this musical masterpiece and it was arranged by a man who seems to appear on a lot of songs I really enjoy, Horace Ott. The type of Lp that I can listen to in a sitting from start to finish.

Los Angeles R&B Soul Blues label. I am the type of guy who jumps into things quickly so this is a great reminder to slow down. Nice uptempo groove.

Daily Find – The Clock by Lois Raebeck narrated by Bob McFadden – Childrens music Lp

Daily Discovery - The Clock by Lois Raebeck narrated by Bob McFadden - Childrens music Lp on Classroom Materials Company #1046.

This Lp has many other finger play tunes to teach nursery or kindergarten students the names of their fingers with music and play. It brings me back to my days as a 5 year old learning through music, something that I believe is sorely missing from our public education. I remember my music teacher, Mr. Widdle and how much joy he brought to my day once a week.

I share The Clock because it is a new year and a couple of my resolutions are to play more and use my time wisely. Hence, The Clock by musical play. Best wishes for a New Year to all!
