Daily Discovery - Angel Baby by Charles Brown & Group - Doowop 45 on King. Ha! Listening to something that I never knew existed. When I put the needle to this record, little did I know I would hear what you are about to hear. The classic Teen Doowop from Rosie & The Originals, done by guys! When I was 16 I remember thinking I was done, I had heard everything. Little did I know at that moment in time that I would still be discovering and unearthing gems like this 17 years later, something so new yet so familiar. My friend Stephen from http://vinylshuffle.com/ calls me a musical archeologist, I like that title, thank you Stephen. I ask you to sit back, relax and listen to my discovery's with me.
Daily Discovery - Leaving Rome by Jo Jo Bennett & Mudies All Stars. Classic Reggae on Moodisc. Sounds a lot like Stranger At My Door by the Fuller Bros. Reggae and Soul music go hand in hand. I didn't realize I had this gem until today. Groovin!
Daily Discovery - Uncle Jam by Funkadelic. Happy 4th of July! Groove to this Uncle Sam tune with a George Clinton twist. Enlist yourself to the Funk. From the Uncle Jam Wants You album lesser known as "Rescue Dance Music From The Blahs". A Funk collectors must have classic Lp that features Freak Of The Week and (Not Just) Knee Deep. (Not Just) Knee Deep was sampled by a slew of legendary rappers and hip hop artists including De La Soul, LL Cool J, EPMD, Digital Underground, Dr. Dre featuring Snoop Dogg, Public Enemy, Ice Cube, 2Pac and most recently by Black Eyed Peas.
Daily Discovery - Willie The Wabbit by Gary & Johnny & Puffs. Novelty R&R 45 - This is Gary Paxton, the same guy that produced & recorded the classic "The Monster Mash". He started the label Gar-Pax. An odd little tune but it cracks me up, you can't help but smile listening to this. Enjoy!
Daily Discovery - Love Makes The World Go Round by Diana Dawn. I love this version of the classic made famous by Deon Jackson. The horns and guitar in this version give it a more uptempo intro, as opposed to the vibes. It almost has a Barbara Lewis type quality to it. Northern Soul rarity.
Daily Discovery - Ghost Riders In The Sky by Scat Man Crothers. Nice Jazz version of this Country cowboy standard. I love his very slight twist on the classic "bookety bookety boop" and breathing into the mic toward the end of the clip.
Daily Discovery - Cry No More by Ben E. King. Classic Northern Soul dancer. One of his harder to find 45's. A lesser known song by the casual fan but a floor filling dancer in the soul clubs. From the legendary Atco label.
Daily Discovery - Feeling some Chicano Soul. Nice cover of the Vicente Fernandez classic - Volver Volver by Los Lobos
