Daily Find – Louisiana Groove by King Solomon – R&B Soul 45

Daily Discovery - Louisiana Groove b/w My Dream by King Solomon - R&B Soul 45 on Cadillac Records #503

Yet another R&B Soul tune that we chose to feature by King Solomon. An amazing R&B vocalist. While this isn't his best, it's definitely an odd one out of Los Angeles. "Louisiana Groove" features The Lad Teens Band, a Chicano Soul group who were at least partially from my home town, Hawthorne California. The Lad Teens also released a tough to find tune on the same label, Cadillac Records #502, called Keep On Rollin' b/w White Rice.
This is not your typical King Solomon, R&B tune. It sounds like King Solomon and his producers were trying to get a nationwide hit with this dance 45 that mentions cities across the U.S. The flip side "My Dream" has the screaming and yelling, party like atmosphere, maybe recorded live? It has mellow and has a creepy vibe to it. It's almost as if King Solomon was going for an impression of James Brown singing, "Try Me". An interesting double sider either way. Enjoy!

Daily Find – When My Baby Cries by Sunny & The Sunliners – Chicano Soul

Daily Discovery - When My Baby Cries b/w Saving My Love For You by Sunny & The Sunliners - Chicano Soul on Key-Loc Records #1038

I don't know this Sunny Ozuna record that well, but I like it. His raspy voice is so recognizable. A Texas Soul gem that should start getting play in the steady growing underground Chicano Soul circle.

Daily Find – That Certain Tenderness by Justice V – East L.A. Garage Soul 45

Daily Discovery - That Certain Tenderness b/w Things Get Worse by Justice V - East Los Angeles Soul 45 Panorama Records #55

I initially bought this record for the Northern Soul side "Things Get Worse". I flipped the record over to hear an East LA Soul Chicano Soul cut worthy of being on any of Art Laboe's compilations. Although I don't think they are Chicano they definitely were influenced by the genre. I love the honesty in this tune, my favorite part is the rap in the middle that starts with, "Darling, I know that sometimes I'm pretty hard to live with". I won't ruin the rest of the song for you, because the rap is the meat of the song. This type of honesty is something I choose to work on daily.

Daily Find – Viva La Raza (Live The Races) by Zapata – Chicano Soul 45

Daily Discovery - Viva La Raza (Live The Races) by Zapata - Chicano Soul 45 on Original Sound #107. Flip side is "Una Ves Mas. What a great latin soul record. "I'm not black, I'm not white, I'm In the Middle, I'm just right" "Soul comes in all colors". The message these guys are sending to me is that it's ok to be yourself, no matter what you look like. Great stuff!
